Costume Gifts

The perfect gift for the dancer in your life is often a new costume. MissBellydance.com has picked out three that are flattering and fun to wear…and are in stock ready to be owned and worn with delight by all the raissat in your life. We’re looking at flowing chiffon in a symphony of colours with ‘Fit for Fatine’ shown above.

We also have several ensembles with great coverage in the torso area. They are accompanied with harem pants that are comfortable to wear. You can pick out a matching hipscarf, gold or silver zills, cover-ups and thobes to wear over the outfit until it’s time for the event or ceremony.

Then there’s “Chebba Shinewhich is a personal favourite for many of our staff due to the intricate cut of the top and the stylish layers on the pants and hipscarf. Which one would best suit your favourite dancer friend? Post a photo of you with your favourite dancer pal this week on our Facebook page and we’ll email you a couponcode for your next order from missbellydance.com.

Flamenco and Raqs Sharqi – Relatives in the Art

The history of Flamenco dance is so vast. Most historically conscious dancers know that this art has its origins in India and if you watch movies like Gypsy Caravan (the documentary film) or read/study with Aunty Rocky (Morocco) both can give you some really amazing insight to this art and its background. Many bellydancers love to borrow from this particular dance. It is not wrong but there is a respectful way to do that. We’d like to again, remind our readers that we are sponsors of the Flamenco Arabe Dance Seminar coming up in less than 6 months. This workshop will allow you to learn the roots of Flamenco technique, ask questions and get a better understanding of how it can be fused without confusing your audience.

We do want everyone to take some time to look at the great artists of this era via video. Who are your favourites past and present? Let us know your thoughts. Two interested fans will be entered into a drawing to win two skirts that are perfect for this workshop. Just respond in the comments section or leave us a note on Facebook.
Can’t wait to see everyone there! Again, you can register here.

Say Aiewaaa to more glam in your raqswear and raqs wardrobe. Enjoy these great styles as you go back to dance class this fall. From cool elastic waist based harem pants featuring cool frills to sleek pieces that accentuate your curves, these look great on so many body types. We got lots of great feedback this past summer and continue to see these are a favourite.

You can mix and match these with the black top of your choice or buy the whole set. You can wear it for class or go out for lunch between sessions in these stylish sets. Get one for you and a friend so you both can twin. It’s a lot fun. We see so much love and care in the dance world, we’re happy to be a part of it through fashion. Enjoy these fun and frilly dance class sets and let us know what you think.

Raqswear for the Real World

cs309-4t

Glamour is important when you’re going out on stage. But you also want to look good when you’re in class and out and about with your friends. We’ve discussed the wonderful world of bellydance workout wear and practice outfits in the past but did you know these can be worn as outfits too?

Pair these pieces with your favourite long knit jacket for the fall. Do it up with a little jewelry and cool items from your dance treasure. Let the whole world know you’re into raqs with the right kind of wear.

cs309-6t

MissBellydance has these in lots of different styles and colours and colourways. They’re just the right price for festival season and dance class. But the fabric is limited and won’t last forever. Get these while you can and let us know what you think.

Bellydance Presentation

A troupe or sololist’s overall presentation should not only demonstrate their best skills but also their best selves. It’s one of the reasons we’re striving to provide a diverse offering of raqs wear and bellydance costumes to our fans. We want everyone to have a wide variety of options that fit their individual “Bellydance Presentation” needs. This now extends to hair and make-up.

Earlier this year we teamed up with HairLaVie haircare, testing out what products worked best. Some of you all know our product manager, Judith. She is championing these great hair products because of the amazing results she has seen after using them on her own hair. In the coming days we’ll be talking about specific differences in this hair care line as compared to what we’ve been using ourselves.

HairlaVie

A great costume deserves the best hair and make-up to compliment it and we know you’ll benefit from combining these great products in your routine. We’ve shared with you our costume and hair care suggestions. We want to hear from you about your favourite make-up and feature many of you in your MissBellydance.com costumes while wearing your favourite brand of eye shadow, lipstick and more. Also if you’re looking to try HairLaVie let us know. We’re giving away HairLaVie gifts to some of our fans.

Send us your pictures via facebook or tweet us @missbellydance.com. Tell us your hair, make-up and overall bellydance presentation goals. One of you will be the lucky recipient of a basket of hair products from HairLaVie ! Looking forward to hearing from you!

Present Your Best Self!

AFBD: History of Hosting Cultural Events

AFBDWhat is so special about events sponsored by Atlanta Fusion Bellydance and MissBellydance.com? There is a real commitment to fun! These events provide an opportunity to go beyond the norm in our industry. This is more than watching people dance, this is your chance to get up and be a part of the energy through cultural exploration of fashion in our industry. For more than 5 years AFBD has hosted bellydance conferences and workshops that received rave reviews. People travel far and near to see unique artists in a fun and exciting setting. MissBellydance.com has been proud to sponsor and support these amazing dance conventions.

AFBD is dedicated to carefully designing schedules and workshops that appeal not to just to dancers but also cultural dance education enthusiasts, ex-pat families, professors and their students. These events open up discussion on how we view and respect ethnicity in dance, the business side of our craft as well as how to incorporate creativity. Bellydance Fashion Week will be right in line with a focus on culture and why we do the things we do. It’s a perfect opportunity to look at the political past and the creative future.
