Q&A with MissBellydance!

Q: Dear MBD, I’m wearing the same costume I had on last week. What can I do to spice up my wardrobe?

A: Lots of gorgeous sheer shimmering costumes for late night evenings that are inexpensive and travel easy are on our site. While you don’t need to have a new costume for every performance, you never want to feel like you have to repeat the same costume over and over again because it’s your favourite one. Care for a Caftan?

Spelled Caftan or Kaftan, these long dress style garments are worn in a variety of ways. Short-sleeved caftans are awesome in summer and make great fashion companions for annual dance conferences that are so hot in this heat. We’ve upped our caftan game with some new colours that will delight every dancer! They are wider and fit better as well as having an amazing print that helps you stand out and look your best.

Caftans are also used as costumes and everyday wear or cover-ups for costumes. If you haven’t noticed already, lots of dancers world wide sport spectacular caftans over their costumes to conceal their gorgeous masterpiece until show time or class. It’s not culturally inappropriate to wear a caftan out and about if you choose. Caftans are worn in many cultures and these we have are inspired by our own cultures from our diverse team of first generation and cultured people. Alima – A Fan For Life

Alima is one of those fans you look forward to seeing at a show or workshop. She’s everyone’s friend…and we do mean everyone! There’s not a Raqs Star she doesn’t know or one that doesn’t know her. At just about every event, she is requested in VIP section and was recently asked by the Salimpour Company to be a member of the Bal Anat Tribute show that will tour globally in the coming months. Her dedication to the dance, the art and the culture are outstanding and we’re proud to call her not just a friend…but family!

The photo above speaks for itself…a kind, loving and gentle person who supports the people of the cultures she loves and in many ways has adopted. It’s an honour to see her decked out in MissBellydance raqs wear in her photoshoot with Fox Gradin. What’s in a Dance Floor

The floors in our sister dance studio AFBD were recently changed. They are floors designed to improve shock absorbtion and to keep performers comfortable. We’re still learning about the floors and asking dancers that stream out of the studio after hours of classes what are their thoughts and how do they feel.

We’ve heard nothing but good things. Several mentioned that not every studio has them. They said they could tell a difference in their level of soreness the next day. Mind you, this was after one of Suhaila Salimpour’s visits. She offered Jamila Salimpour certification course here in Atlanta this time. These floors are very similar if not identical to the floors in her own studio. The dancers we spoke with all reported feeling quite good and not as sore or worn out after their training. That speaks volumes.

Because the studio is 100% used by AFBD with the occasional use for photoshoots, dance parties, lectures and more, it was not MissBellydance’s decision to make the change. Leadership of AFBD should be credited for this and we hope that all who come by and purchased clothing and classes will benefit from this investment.
