Alima is one of those fans you look forward to seeing at a show or workshop. She’s everyone’s friend…and we do mean everyone! There’s not a Raqs Star she doesn’t know or one that doesn’t know her. At just about every event, she is requested in VIP section and was recently asked by the Salimpour Company to be a member of the Bal Anat Tribute show that will tour globally in the coming months. Her dedication to the dance, the art and the culture are outstanding and we’re proud to call her not just a friend…but family!
The photo above speaks for itself…a kind, loving and gentle person who supports the people of the cultures she loves and in many ways has adopted. It’s an honour to see her decked out in MissBellydance raqs wear in her photoshoot with Fox Gradin. Alima is wearing our Turquoise Kalidescope ensemble, famous for the cool colourway and cool yoga style pants with panels and fluted sleeves. You can see it here in both the turquoise and creamy peach colourway as well.
She wears it well! Be sure to connect with Alima at dance shows in Atlanta and beyond!
The floors in our sister dance studio AFBD were recently changed. They are floors designed to improve shock absorbtion and to keep performers comfortable. We’re still learning about the floors and asking dancers that stream out of the studio after hours of classes what are their thoughts and how do they feel.
We’ve heard nothing but good things. Several mentioned that not every studio has them. They said they could tell a difference in their level of soreness the next day. Mind you, this was after one of Suhaila Salimpour’s visits. She offered Jamila Salimpour certification course here in Atlanta this time. These floors are very similar if not identical to the floors in her own studio. The dancers we spoke with all reported feeling quite good and not as sore or worn out after their training. That speaks volumes.
Because the studio is 100% used by AFBD with the occasional use for photoshoots, dance parties, lectures and more, it was not MissBellydance’s decision to make the change. Leadership of AFBD should be credited for this and we hope that all who come by and purchased clothing and classes will benefit from this investment.
This is what we’ve been waiting for…a bonafide Beladi Dress that meets the standards and then some. We wanted a stylish homage to the region that didn’t look like it was just another tourist attraction. Enough with the kitsch and on with a respectable piece of clothing that really shines and celebrates the culture.
This garment has stretch but it’s vertical vs. horizontal. This means the pattern is not going to go sideways in an odd fashion. This is important as patterns that stretch can distract from even the most skilled of performances.
We know you will enjoy this dress! It’s the highlight of our Raqs wardrobe right now. While many new garments are to come they will be limited edition and we will not resell them or remake them more than a few times. This Beladi Dress is here for just a few weeks and then it’s onward and upward for the next awesome item. Call or email us today to place your order. If you need a custom size, smaller or larger it’s $10 extra and will be made with care by our team.
We can’t wait to see it on you. Send us photos and we’ll happily share it and feature your show.
The meshed batik print on this costume is one that continues to shine! The crossover wrap style choli top works well over soft cotton bra tops making it a great ensemble for students and beginners in bellydance. While not limited to those just starting out in the art, this can be mixed a matched with a variety of accessories and jewelry to give the professional a dazzling appearance during their dance show.
Bask in the many facets of tribal fusion raqs art with this gorgeous black and deep red set. Accessorize it to your hearts desire! This features a bra top with lace overlay with a fashionable ruffle trim. The matching skirt features a side tassel loop layered over the most comfortable black lace dance pants you’ll find!
Jewelry is sold separately so that you can mix and match the bold silver and metals to your desire. Each person in your troupe can pick from a variety of rings, belts and jewelry that suits their fancy. Let us know when you wear this to the show. We’re giving away prizes to customers in costumes. Each photo is an entry into the end of the year drawing! Can’t wait to see you in our raqs wear!
We’re excited about the great shows coming up this weekend at Essence of Bellydance. We try to go to as many conferences and bellydance shows near and far as possible. This year’s program features Egyptian icons like Mohamed Shahin! Also taking the stage and teaching workshops is Andrus Ramir of Miami! Suhaila Salimpour will be in town as will Colleen Shakti and dance greats from around the globe.
Each night are big shows and gala events that warrant a fancy dress or two. We’ve got some fun things you can wear for your night on the town at Essence of Bellydance. Sorraiah’s Star and Lycra Pants Set.
Tickets are still available if you want to grab a few for you and your friends! Click here or show up at the Twelve Atlantic Station starting the 15th to get your tickets in person. Downtown and Midtown Atlanta are quite cool and comfortable at this time of year! We look forward to seeing you there!
We’re excited about dance class this fall as highly skilled instructors take their place at the head of the classroom. They are ready to give it their all imparting what often feels like sacred knowledge to their students. You want to make sure you’re at your very best and ready to take your skills to the next level. Nothing better than a really comfortable yet personalized dance class set to get you going.
For kids, we recommend this great unitard that stretches and fits well, giving them room to move comfortably. It’s a basic design that can be modified with a hip scarf or accessory according to the dance genre of their choice. It is available in black and is long lasting so you can throw it in the washer wear after wear.
Send us photos of you in your raqswear and we’ll enter you to win one of our fun MissBellydance.com prize packs in September! We can’t wait to see you soar to the next level in your dance career!
In just two weeks we begin getting ready to jet off to another dance conference! We’re excited. But as we’ve mentioned, there’s a smart way and a wrong way to pack. Our archivist is sharing three key things in her advice on how to pack for raqs sharqi and related events.
One thing I’ve learned is to roll the clothes gently and lay them down as if they were eggplant rayy in the suitcase. It keeps them from wrinkling for some reason. Also, because the suitcases can get really stale (especially if it’s your favourite one), lay dryer sheets on top of the clothes and in between. About five or six will do.
Most important, if you are performing or have a bag you need to check and also if you are changing flights, keep at least one important costume, outfit or article of clothing with you in a substantial carry-on bag. Recently, best friend went to Europe and his bag was gone for three days. That’s miserable. Some conferences last three days so how do you function if your costumes and gala dinner attire is a suitcase elsewhere trying to get to you? Airlines aren’t perfect and things get delayed.
Pack shoes in a thin towel and put them in a plastic bag. Lay them at the bottom of the suitcase and not on top of the clothes. This is to keep them from snagging or getting any unknown articles on your clothes.
This and more tips will be featured on our social pages in the coming months. Please leave us your favourite travel trip tips in the comments section! Safe travels and see you at the show!
